If you’ve ever encountered cold nights living in your RV, you need a heated water hose.

It’s your first line of defense against more serious problems with your RV’s indoor drinking water pipes when temperatures drop below freezing.

Listen to someone who spent an entire winter living in an RV north of Lake Tahoe.
Using my RV water heater hose saved our plumbing, while I could only sympathize with my camping neighbors who didn’t invest in such a hose early enough.
A frozen water hose is a problem that can usually be solved with moderate heat and time. But frozen water pipes inside your RV often lead to cracks.
If this happens, you will find yourself in the unpleasant position of having to replace the pipes, and you may also have to deal with significant water damage inside your vehicle.

So using an insulated rv water hose is the easiest and most affordable way to protect your pipes and get uninterrupted flowing drinking water in your vehicle if you live in colder climates.
But not all insulated water hoses that “claim” to protect your hose from freezing actually withstand the worst conditions.

Believe me, I know many people who have bought an insulated water hose, but their pipes still freeze.
But lucky for you, we surveyed the market to bring you the 10 best new heated water hose options for RVs.
Read the following RV water heater hose reviews to see which one will provide you with safe drinking water in cold weather.

We may receive a commission for the links on this page, but we only recommend the best products in their category.

Had 3 each broke at connection joint. I don’t suggest to waste your money. If you are full timer buy a regular hose w reinforced connections get a electric heat tape wrap it down the hose plug it in. Works better then this Camco hose
I've ordered 3 of these crappy hoses (2 from Walmart and 1 from Amazon). All three leaked right out of the box at the fitting. Complete POS. Do your self a favor and buy the API heated drinking water hose instead.
It's 14°, my water supply is heated AND I have a heat lamp in the crawl space. The thermometer in there says 30°. Once again I have no water.

Unfortunately with almost 25% of the reviews being a one star I chose not to listen. I bought and installed this hose well before winter to make sure all would be good for a long Midwestern winter. I have now skirted my camper and am all snuggled in, on the third night below 20 degrees F (not -20, but just 20) the hose froze solid as a rock. Needless to say I did not have water for a morning shower and although I contemplated brushing my teeth in the dogs water bowl, I resisted. Then I find out the return window has closed and but Amazon is authorized to accept defective product returns. Great!, oh wait now there is a restocking fee of 20% and the price has now gone up almost 15%, so a replacement will cost me 35% more than the original hose. What??????Okay, take the hose back, give me a refund of whatever I can get and I will order heat cable and make my own for half the cost of this "thing". My original RV hose, 25ft heat cable and foam insulation wrap, total invested
We use our motorhome all year around, so it is important to have a good drinking water hose for winter use. We have just completed a stint of using this hose where we had extended periods of lows in the mid to low 20s every night, and we never had a bit of problem with the water in the hose freezing or even becoming restricted in flow. In that regard, we are quite happy with this hose. I rated it 4 stars because it is very stiff and bulky. It is hard to find a place to store the hose when it is not in use because it is so stiff and takes up so much room. Now that spring is coming, we'll store this at home until next winter. But when freezing weather becomes a threat again, I'll be glad to pull it out of home storage. One more bit of advice. The power cord that comes with this is fairly short. I have never found a power pedestal close enough to the water hookup to use this without an extension cord. That is no problem, I just wanted to mention that you will probably want to have an extension cord to use with this when you need it.
Had this product for approx 5-6 weeks. Works flawless as far as I can tell. Neighbor was jealous I got one and was upset he made one the old fashioned way and mine came ready to use out of the box. Def recommend this product! Heard a lot of people talk bad about these but so far I'm happy. Been in some cold weather here in Colorado plains.Update!!!!!!!!! 12-16I really enjoyed this product for about the first two months. It seems that the convenience of the product comes with the drawback that it doesn't have longevity. Had some cold days here in Colorado but definitely nothing crazy. -15 was the coldest day we have had in a month. It is currently 16. High of 40 today and the hose is frozen solid. Followed all the directions precisely and it's just a fancy frozen hose. Definitely disappointed in this product especially for the $110 price tag. My neighbors handmade not as classy looking DIY job hasn't given him any troubles. Lesson learned. I would not recommend this product. Went against the many warnings of people that these don't last and seems they were right. Some parks don't allow handmade versions so what's the alternative? Anyone with any luck please let me know I like water!

Bought one of these when my son and family was going to visit and stay in my RV during an unexpected cold snap. It failed at the coupling during freezing weather. Ok, so maybe it was defective. Lost how many gallons of water till it was shut off. So I replaced it. (Thanks, Amazon.) Installed the new one, and it failed, same place after less than two weeks. More water lost. My well is pressure regulated, so not overpressure. Both occurred during below freezing weather, which is why you buy a heated hose. I suspect excess heat softened the hose/glue and the coupling failed to hold. I do not recommend this hose, unless you like running outside in below freezing weather to shut off your spigot after ??? gallons of water spilled.
This item is great. We sold our home much much faster than we thought and ended up living in our RV in Colorado starting in February of this year. We purchased this item and were skeptical, but cannot tell you how wonderful it was to still have running water even when we hit 18 below zero in Golden, CO one night. Easy to install and works like a charm.
AND because of the fact that this hose never worked at all, which I didn't know, because I had faith that a hose that costs this much would work, period, I fear I cracked a block or something because there is waterleaking out from the bottom of my RV, and NOT from a normal drain hose, it's coming from underneath, inside. The hose must never have heated, otherwise I wouldn't have a cracked tank in 4 days.I can't believe these heated hoses aren't tested before they are sold. It could be a matter of life or death, literally.Do Not Buy From This Company. It's a gamble you don't want to participate in.

Hooked it up today, and it won't stop dripping from both ends! Took 2 hours of messing with it, and still leaks! Replaced washers, added screen washers, tried teflon tape and even fitting grease! All this for a freakin hose!! Sending back Monday, and will never purchase this POS again! A hose is supposed to be simple and make your life easier.... NOT THIS PIECE OF JUNK!
Hose froze in 14 degrees weather. I ensured there was power to the hose but still froze. Before it froze, the Hose visually looked kinked all the time, I straightened it out several times but would go back to being kinked. Water would flow through it before it froze in 14 degree weather.
I ordered the first one it lasted like 2 mos. Could not return. Thought maybe I did something to make it go bad. Ordered another, hooked it up and it was leaking water from beneath the rubber area where the wire for the plug wire comes from! Double Crap.....ordered a 3rd for kicks and giggles. Yep, I am laughing my butt off.....the heating component of the 3rd would not work. Plugged in as I opened the box to see if it would get warm and NOPE!

Sorry to report I only gave this one star as it is defective and did not work after plugging it in. It was returned immediately for a refund
I purchased the heated hose to use on our trip down to Gulf Shores, AL, but hadn't tried it out before we left. The first time I plugged it in it tripped the circuit breaker. I tried it on several other outlets (different breakers) but got the same results. I would have sent it back, but the return date had been exceeded! What a waste of money!
This hose over heated, melted and burnt. Only had it 3 days! Very dangerous product and no way of contacting the company.

I, like others, have the "Bubbles" in my hose. It's been less than 30 days since I opened it and plugged it in. See the pictures as well as others who have posted them. For the amount of money this hose cost, this should NOT BE HAPPENING!!!!I wanted this product to be all it was described so bad. I REALLY liked the idea of an "All-in-One" heated hose and that it would not be so bulky and "make shift" looking at my camp site.I will not be trying the "All-in -One" idea again. I will go back to a good quality hose, a heat tape, and foam pipe insulation.Though the hose has not "Failed Technically" yet, the owner of the campground I am at has asked me not to use it because he is afraid it will burst and water will run everywhere and possibly cause a hazard. So, I must remove it.I would not recommend this product to anyone, sorry, but it's too much money to take the chance that you "might get a good one"
I hate to give a low rating on a well-made product, sorry. I bought this hose for all the obvious reasons. It is a substantial and sturdy product, with well-made fittings. When I received it (September. Connecticut, in other words still warm weather), I noticed it was a little stiff. The directions warn the user that this is normal and not to straighten it out too forcefully or you might cause a leak or break the heat element or electrical wire. Fast forward to October, Colorado, 20 degrees, and it was all but impossible to utilize the hose without using a lot of force to straighten it even a little bit. The product might be OK for a long term installation but I found it useless for an overnight stop. I would recommend unwinding it at warm temps, or maybe running hot water through it to get it straight. Same procedure for coiling it up again in the morning. I decided after one use to just disconnect my water overnight and reconnect in the morning. If I was going to buy a heated water hose again, which I am NOT, I would try the less expensive regular Camco or another brand, NOT this NONKINKING hose, since kink-resistant generally means a much stiffer hose. Maybe the regular heated hoses are easier to work with.
This hose performed extremely well over a very cold winter.Pros:- Doesn't freeze when properly installed and insulated.Cons:- Hose is very stiff and wants to curl back to it's original shape. The heat tape forms bulges as you straighten out the hose. I was worried by this at first, but it did not seem to hurt the performance of the hose.- Hose draws constant power as long as its plugged in, meaning it's wasting electricity whenever temperatures rise above freezing. It's surprising that the hose does not have a built-in thermostatically controlled switch to power the hose only when the temperatures fall below 35 F. I bought a cheap "Thermocube" from the hardware store to solve this problem.- Hose must be wrapped with foam or rubber insulation, otherwise it *will* freeze. I wrapped the entire length of my hose with 3/4" rubber insulation and duct tape. This didn't take a lot of time, but I would have liked a hose which was already insulated. The pros definitely outweigh the cons for those of us who live in cold climates.

Addendum 12/14/20: Well, hose stopped working today 7 degrees out went to water the livestock and the water froze in the hose after a few minutes of running. The heating element isn't working and now we are left with an expensive discussion piece. Do not buy, we fixed the original issues, but clearly there are more.Great idea but poor construction. Was really excited to get this, winter came early and our horses and cattle need a heated hose to fill stock tanks. Looks great, but connected to faucet and the problems began. There is crimping on the hose which connects the unions to the hose. These crimpings are insufficient and on both applications leak profusely. For the money of the hose, this should be the last problem experienced. So now it's in my work bench as I contemplate return or repair, just poorly designed and clearly no quality control.
It's only been 2 weeks but so far so good. It performs as advertised. I appreciate the choice of rubber as well as poly construction and the common sense design. The only competitor was $40 more. I have purchased outdoor pressure sensative heated cat enclosures for my barn cats and have had zero issues. You can pay for the items at K&H but you get what you pay for. Their outdoor water bowl 32 ounce grey ABS also working as advertised. Would have purchased 128 ounce stainless had it been in stock. Love the spring wound electrical cord and polarized or 3 pronged outleds. No games for my pets. My girlfriend will not drain a barn hose to save her llife. Can't be bothered in the winter no matter what the repercussions so this hose spans the ceiling trusses and is clearly a lifesaver. No pile of hoses pretending to thaw in the snow. :)Happy Horseman.
Although these hoses come at a premium cost, they are necessary for watering our horses in winter. They still have to be taken apart and the ends drained during colder weather as the plastic ends will freeze. The hose itself will not. They have to be in areas where horses or people will not step on them as the wires inside the hose that keep it from freezing will break. Wild animals and rodents will chew through them to get water. We use them year round but only plug them in during winter months. We replace them about every two years due to holes in the hose from one thing or another. I also purchased one for my best friend for xmas. She has had hers for four years now, but only uses it during the cold winter months.

Heated Rv Water Hose – The Buyer’s Guide & FAQ:

1. What is a heated water hose?

A heated water hose has either insulation or a heating element along its entire length, or both. Hose designs vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but usually these hoses are a little heavier and more elaborate.

The idea behind a heated water hose is to provide a small amount of energy to keep the temperature along the length of the hose above freezing so that the water continues to flow. If a regular hose is left at temperatures below freezing, you can expect the water to stop flowing and possible damage.

2. Why do you need a heated water hose for your RV?

Low temperatures can cause many problems for RV owners. A heated water hose is an essential piece of RV equipment, especially for those who travel or are in areas with low winter temperatures.

When water freezes, it expands. Frozen pipes in log and brick homes burst, giving homeowners headaches and costly repairs. Life in an RV is no different, except that RV plumbing is even more fragile and vulnerable than plumbing in a home.

Plastic pipes and fittings easily crack under the pressure of ice. This leads to leaking pipes, plumbing damage and mold growth, which can cause health problems for people and pets.

Many RV parks in areas with low temperatures insulate the plumbing and require guests to have a heated hose.

3. How do you choose the best heated water hose for your RV?

There are many heated hoses on the market for RVs. These hoses have electric heating strips that run the entire length and plug into an electrical outlet. This keeps the water from freezing and prevents damage to the hose and your RV.

Here are some factors to consider when choosing the best heated hose:

Diameter.
Length: make sure the hose is long enough to stretch between your RV and the spigot!
Materials: not all hoses are safe for drinking water. Those that are safe will be listed on the package. Make sure it says “safe for drinking water” or “for potable use” on the hose.
Burst Pressure or PSI: This is how much water pressure the hose can withstand before it bursts. It would be a good idea to connect the hose to a water pressure regulator to protect the hose and the water system.
Energy Consumption: The hose is electric, so make sure you know how much energy you will use to heat the hose.
Self-regulating: This means that the hose will turn the heating element on and off as needed based on outside temperatures.
Temperature Rating: What temperatures the hose can withstand.
Price

4. Pressure regulators and water filters

If you have a pressure regulator and/or water filter in front of your tank connected to your RV water hose, you’ll want to make sure they’re protected too! You can wrap them in a large blanket or towel, put them in a wet compartment (if you have one), or place them after the heated water hose to allow warmer water to flow through them.

You can also wrap them with thermal tape to prevent them from freezing.
Alternative ways to keep van fresh water hoses from freezing

If you don’t want to buy a heated water hose, there are other ways to keep your freshwater hose from freezing.

The second best option is to purchase your own thermal tape and wrap the existing hose with it. This option may work, but you will lose the insulating properties of the heated hose unless you wrap the hose with insulation.

Alternatively, you could leave the water dripping in your van… But this is not recommended and is not reliable protection. The hose can freeze if you leave the water dripping, which can damage not only the hose, but also your van’s plumbing. And if you leave the water dripping, you will likely leave the gray water tank open. This can also cause the sewage hose to freeze!

5. How do I prevent my van’s pipes and water tank from freezing?

The first thing to remember is that the temperature inside your van will always be different from the temperature at which your water pipes and tank are.

Therefore, the thermostat inside your vehicle will never be a good indicator of whether your pipes and tanks are protected from freezing.

If the water inside your pipes freezes completely, it will expand. It is this expansion that can cause the pipes to crack or rupture.

Most modern vans have plumbing pipes that can expand slightly before cracking, but if you have an older van, you need to be even more careful when temperatures drop below freezing.

If you don’t have a heated water hose, the best way to protect your pipes and tank from freezing is to disconnect the city water hose before sub-zero temperatures arrive.

You should also consider installing a heat lamp or drip light in the underhood space where the drinking water tank is located.

If you decide to use this approach, make sure you choose a lamp or light fixture that has a cage around it.

Otherwise, the heat of the lamp can melt anything it comes in contact with. This can cause damage as well as create a significant risk of fire if the lamp is left unattended.

You may also want to consider purchasing an RV skirt to cover the entire space underneath your RV, travel trailer, or 5th wheel.

An RV skirt will keep the temperature higher under your vehicle and reduce the chance of freezing pipes or water tanks.

6. Can one frosty night cause damage?

It can! Sometimes all it takes is one night under supervision for frosty temperatures to cause significant damage to your van’s water pipes and tanks.

7. Do I really need a heated water hose for my RV?

Only if you plan to spend time in sub-zero temperatures! When I traveled with my RV in a climate where I knew the temperature would always be above freezing at night, I never worried about having a water heater hose.

However, I’ve heard too many horror stories about complications from freezing temperatures.

And I know from experience that a heated water hose is the best way to keep your RV’s water system running smoothly if you plan to spend time in places where temperatures drop below freezing at night.

8. Can I just use heat tape on my existing RV water hose?

Sure. I’ve seen many people do this, but I know it’s no more efficient than buying a quality heated water hose.

This do-it-yourself method also means buying more materials and more time in the installation process, not to mention generating more waste.

So while it may seem better to just buy some thermal tape and wrap it around your existing hose, the amount of time you have to spend on this do-it-yourself method may be a more significant investment than if you just bought a new heated water hose for RV use.

Bottom line:

If you’re going camping in an area with low temperatures, make sure your RV is protected! Don’t skimp on the heated water hose – you could spend a little money now or a lot of money later.

Don’t wait for the cold weather to arrive to order a heated hose!
